MFAS 2021 Registration is Now Open!

We are proud to announce the theme for this year’s Midwest Filipino American Summit

Conference, “Kayamanan: The Value of Community''. The Tagalog word, kayamanan,

translates to “wealth” or “treasures”.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt like we had lost what we treasured the most. However, as the months in quarantine passed, we found new, and old, treasures that we may have taken for granted--our families, our friends and our communities. Although we were not able to go to the “usual spots” with our friends on and off campus, we looked forward to zoom calls and facetimes to check up on each other and support each other through trying conditions. 

Through each phone call with a small or large group of people, it almost felt like the bonds we treasured with each other did not fade. In fact, the bonds grew stronger and even multiplied. One of the most valuable realizations we had was that decreased physical contact with the ones we loved did not mean the love, support and care in our relationships did not exist. We found ourselves treasuring the ties we had that stood strong against the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
